Personal Log 7.2.22

This is a short blog but I just wanted to share w/ you the psalm I've been meditating on lately:

Psalm 100:4 

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name.”

Here it is broken down in the Hebrew, word by word:

Enter = bô' = to go in, to come in, to attain to, bring near

into His gates = šaʿar = gate (of palace, royal castle, temple, court of tabernacle), heaven

with thanksgiving = tôḏâ = give praise to God, thanksgiving in songs of liturgical worship, hymn of praise; thank-offering, sacrifice of thanksgiving

and into His courts = ḥāṣēr =  court, enclosure, settled abode; from the primitive root 'to sound a trumpet'

with praise =  tᵊhillâ = adoration, thanksgiving (paid to God), act of general or public praise

be thankful = yāḏâ = to give thanks, to confess (the name of God), the same word used for intimacy

unto Him, and *note: no words listed for this phrase 

bless = bāraḵ = to kneel, to bless & to be blessed, be adored

His name = šēm = reputation, fame, glory; the Name (as designation of God)

For your personal devotions, if you're not already breaking things down into the Hebrew & Greek, I would encourage you to do so. It's one thing to read Scripture & think you know what it means (I've been guilty of that more times than I care to admit) but it's quite another to really get to the meat of it.

After breaking it down, the thing that hit me the most was the intimacy part, hidden in plain sight… so the order goes like this: thanksgiving, praise, intimacy, blessing.
