Isolation/Revelation

“The place of isolation can become the place of revelation.” - Steven Furtick

On the island of Patmos, isolated & alone, John received the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

Don't waste this time of isolation & distancing; in this global pause, in this reset, in this holy moment, let your prayer & heart's desire be for a greater revelation of Jesus.

Some of you are very social, you love people & love being around them, you really miss the "flesh on flesh" (handshakes & hugs) and this time of quarantine is extremely hard on you, in some ways it's killing you (& you know what I mean by that).

Here is an interesting tidbit: the Greek work Patmos literally means "my killing".

I often wonder about John, the apostle that Jesus loved, the apostle that laid his head on the chest of Jesus, the apostle that received the Revelation of Jesus Himself. Was he an introvert or an extrovert? Was he a people person? I think he was probably a little of both but I also think it's no coincidence that he received the revelation while he was isolated from civilization as he knew it.

Perhaps, whether he realized it or not, he needed to be rid of some things that were quite possibly distractions or even idols to him. Maybe his distractions or idols were the following: his job, his financial security, social interaction, his idea of ministry... maybe something needed to die & maybe that something was in a place appropriately called "my killing".

Right now, in this global pandemic, perhaps God has us each in our own little island Patmos, in a place where something must die so we can receive a [greater] revelation of Jesus.
